Painting en Plein air (in the open air)
Painting from life is a pursuit un like any other painting technique. It challenges artist to concentrate every sensory nerve on the information in front of them. They absorb it all, from sight to sound, from temperature to atmosphere, and then channel those feelings from head to hand, re-creating the vision in paints on paper or canvas.

November is here and one of my favorite places is Fort Davis, Texas. The Cottonwood trees becomes such a yellow and gold and shine with such a brilliance that its almost impossible to paint.
I got up early on a Thursday morning and headed off to Fort Davis from Odessa to paint. Just a 150 miles south into the Davis Mountains, I spent a great deal of my youth and teens living in this area, many found memories. I was going to meet other members of the Outdoor Painters Society and spend 4 days painting, unfortunately none of the members could not make the trip but I was there and decided to stay 3 days and paint and enjoy myself. I have included 4 of the pieces I did while on the trip, I will be also be doing a series of studio paintings based on the 100's of great photos I took. Enjoy!
